تخلص من إعتام عدسة العين وحسّن نظرك

• A cataract is a clouding of the natural lens of the eye which leads to a decrease in vision. It typically develops slowly and can affect one or both eyes and make your vision blurry, hazy, or less colorful. You may have trouble reading or doing other everyday activities.

• Cataracts are most associated with aging, but they can also result from other factors, including Family history , medical conditions such as diabetes and other systemic diseases, Long-term use of corticosteroids and other environmental factors or eye injuries.

• The most effective treatment for cataracts is quick , painless surgical removal of the cloudy lens, which is usually replaced with an artificial lens (intraocular lens or IOL) which is is a clear, plastic lens that requires no care and becomes a permanent part of your eye. IOLs can correct myopia, hyperopia, presbyopia or astigmatism.

Types of IOLs

Monofocal IOL

The lenses have one focusing power. This means they sharpen either your distance, mid-range or close-up vision. most people need it for far vision but still will require glasses for reading.

Multifocal IOL

The lenses contain multiple focal point which helps patients with near and distant vision. It reduces the patients 'need for glasses or bifocals. One shortcoming is that some patients may notice rings or halos around lights, like when driving at night.

Trifocal IOL

Trifocal IOLs have three focal points, providing vision correction for near, intermediate, and distant objects. It improves the patients’ reliance on glasses as it covers a wider range of vision. Halos and glares can still be present especially in low-lighting.

Extended Depth of Focus (EDOF) IOLs

EDOF lenses contain one long focal point that expands your corrected range of vision and depth of focus. These lenses give excellent distance vision along with improvements in mid-range vision. You may still need to use glasses for close-up tasks like reading. glasses for close-up tasks like reading. EDOF IOLs aim to provide a smooth transition between near, intermediate, and distant vision, potentially minimizing visual disturbances like halos and glare.

Toric IOL

Toric IOLs are designed to correct astigmatism, These lenses improve how light hits the retina, allowing you to have a sharper, clearer vision. Toric lenses are available in monofocal, multifocal, extended depth of focus (EDOF) or accommodative models.

Cataract FAQs

Cataracts usually get slowly worse over time. But as cataracts grow, your vision will worsen. You may start to notice that:

  • You have blurred, clouded, or dim vision.
  • You have difficulty seeing clearly at night, making it less safe to drive.
  • Colors appear faded.
  • Your affected eye or eyes become more sensitive to light.
  • You have double vision in your affected eye (which may go away as the cataract continues to grow).
  • Halos appear around lights.
  • Your contact lens or glasses prescription requires frequent changes.

Your eye doctor will probably suggest cataract surgery if you have vision loss that gets in the way of everyday activities like reading, driving, or watching TV.

  • Surgery to replace the cloudy lens is the only way to improve your eyesight with high success rate. There are no medicines, or eye drops that have been proven to improve cataracts or stop them getting worse..

  • Cataract surgery only takes 10 to 15 minutes, but you could be at the facility for a few hours.
The extra time is used for preparation, post-surgery evaluation and recovery instructions.

Cataract surgery is a safe, routine procedure.
Problems during and after cataract surgery are rare in our experienced surgeon’s hands.

  • Most people feel little or no pain during or after cataract surgery. You’ll receive a topical anesthetic (eye drops) to numb your eye during the surgery.

Shortly after surgery, your eye may feel gritty or slightly tender, but over-the-counter pain medicine should improve this.

Before you head home, you’ll be given eye drops and an eye shield or special glasses to protect your eyes. You also may be told to avoid certain activities such as touching your eye, bending over, and heavy lifting. A full recovery takes 4-8 weeks. However, you’ll likely be able to drive and engage in other activities much sooner than that. Your eye doctor will provide the best estimate, based on your circumstances.

Standard IOLs typically correct distance vision only, requiring patients to rely on glasses or contacts for near vision tasks like reading. Premium IOLs, however, offer the possibility of spectacle independence by correcting vision at multiple distances.
