Lasik FAQs
- You should be 18 years or older
- Your eye prescription should not have changed in the last year.
- Your corneas need to be thick enough and healthy, and your overall eye health must be generally good.
- No systemic conditions that may impair healing such as rheumatoid arthritis
- Contact Lens Usage: Soft contact lenses must be removed one week prior to laser vision correction.
- Toric lenses, two weeks prior, and hard or gas permeable contact lenses must be removed for two to four weeks as advised by your ophthalmologist
- Eye Health Maintenance: Maintain good eye hygiene by avoiding eye makeup, lotions, and creams around the eyes on the day of surgery.
- You should expect to be in the treatment room for no more than 20 minutes in total, with the laser procedure itself lasting only a few minutes or even less.
To ensure a comfortable, pain-free experience, Local anesthetic eye drops are administered before your procedure. After surgery, most people feel no discomfort, though your eyes may feel watery, scratchy, or gritty temporarily. You will be given eye drops to relieve these symptoms.
- You go home and take a nap or just relax after the surgery.
- For a few hours, your eyes may feel scratchy or feel like they are burning. You will be given special eye drops to reduce dryness and help your eye heal and Make sure you follow your surgeon’s instructions
- Do not rub or press on your eye.
- You can wash your face and take a shower the day following the operation, however, avoid getting soap or water directly in the eye.
- You will need to return to the hospital for your next-day check-up. Each of our treatment types has its own specific aftercare program, which is explained fully at consultation.
Most people experience improved vision immediately after surgery, then your eyesight should improve with each passing day, and It’s expected to have full visual acuity within days postoperatively.
While laser vision correction is permanent, it does not prevent presbyopia or cataracts, conditions that occur naturally with age. Age-related visual issues require treatment, even in those who have had refractive surgery.
